In 2001, Malini founded “Stree: Global Investments in Women,” a non-profit organization aimed at changing the way low income and at-risk women and children worldwide see themselves and their roles in society. Inaugurated by former US President Clinton and Jordan’s Queen Noor, “Stree” provides a means for women to access healthcare, legal empowerment and provide a forum for grassroots movements to connect with public policy in Africa, Central America, India and Eastern Europe.
This philanthropy supports children across the developing world by providing healthcare, educational opportunities, and a safe place to live. Through the support of orphanages across Sri Lanka and Laos hundreds of children have a brighter future. Philanthropic work has also included human rights advocacy in India, Malaysia and Sri Lanka.
In 2016, Stree has donated:
$373,000 to victims of the Ecuador Earthquake
Over 1,000 tents and blankets for NYC homeless
$5,000 in scholarships to school-aged girls in Ghana
